Valley of Fire is holding numerous free events during the month of March. Standard entrance fees apply. Please contact the park at 702-397-2088 for detailed information of all events.
Leave No Trace Trainers Course
Saturday, March 3-Sunday, March 4, 2012 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
This program promotes skills and ethics to support the sustainable use of wild lands and natural areas. This is a two-day course with one night of camping. After completing this course you will become a Leave No Trace Trainer and will receive a certificate from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, Colorado. A maximum 15 and minimum five participants is required, reservations must be made no later than February 26, 2012.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the Group Use area.
Finding Rock Art
Saturday, March 3, 2012 10 AM-10:30 AM, 12 PM-12:30 PM, and 1 PM-1:30 PM
Petroglyphs are found all around the world, including Valley of Fire State Park. Learn how to look, where to look, and what to look for on your hunt for petroglyphs
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the visitor center.
Guided Petroglyph Tour
Sunday, March 4, 2012 11 AM-11:30 AM, 12:30 PM-1 PM, and 2:30 PM-3 PM
Learn about the petroglyphs found in this area as a park staff member takes you on a short walk to hidden panels of petroglyphs.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the Mouse’s Tank picnic area.
Atlatl Demonstration
Saturday, March 10, 2012 11 AM-12:30 PM
Drop by Atlatl Rock to learn about the ancient tool the Atlatl, which predates the bow and arrow. The Atlatl was commonly used by natives of the area while hunting bighorn sheep at Valley of Fire. Get a chance to throw an Atlatl and test your hunting skills.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the Atlatl Rock picnic area.
Who or What is Kokopelli?
Saturday, March 10, 2012 10 AM-11 AM, 12:30 PM-1:30 PM, and 2 PM-3 PM
Find out who or what Kokopelli is by joining a park volunteer to find out about this North American figure.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the visitor center.
Rainbow Vista Hike
Sunday, March 11, 2012 10:30 AM-11:30 AM and 2 PM-3 PM
Hike with a ranger down to the Fire Canyon Overlook. Along the way, learn about the geology, plants and animals of Valley of Fire. In addition to the flora and fauna, this area offers beautiful scenery for the photographer. Please bring a camera, appropriate footwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the Rainbow Vista trailhead.
Rock Art of the Mojave Desert
Sunday, March 11, 2012 10:30 AM-11 AM, 12:30 PM-1 PM, and 1:30 PM-2 PM
Join one of our park volunteers to learn the what, who, when, where, why and how of Mojave Desert Rock Art.

Dinos of the Valley of Fire

Discover the many types of dinosaurs that roamed Valley of Fire with guest speaker Cap ‘N Dave.

Join park staff and explore the fenced off area behind the petrified logs area. While exploring this undisturbed area you will learn about the different plant life, geology, and the petrification process.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the West Petrified Logs parking area
Desert Bighorn Sheep Program
Sunday, March 18, 2012 10 AM-10:30 AM and 2 PM-2:30 PM
Meet with a park ranger and learn about breeding, eating habits, range, and what to look for in the wild when tracking the Desert Bighorn. Also discuss the difficulties the bighorn sheep face surviving in the desert.
The event is open to the public and participants will gather at the visitor center.

Hike with a ranger around the Arrowhead Loop and end up at Elephant Rock. Along the way, learn all about the geology and history of the area. Please bring a camera, appropriate footwear, sunscreen, sunglasses and water.

21st Annual Work Atlatl Association 3D Target Contest
Saturday, March 31, 2012 9 AM-3 PM
Join people from around the world as they compete to be the best Atlatl competitor. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third places in the women’s, men’s, and children’s divisions. Some Atlatl will be available to share.
